Very few clinics have fresh whole blood on hand RIGHT NOW. This is due to the cost of stocking whole blood and having to discard it after 30 days if it is not used. This is very costly. PSVC made the decision years ago to stock blood and, yes, they have discarded many expensive units over the years. However, they feel that if they are going to consider themselves a high-end practice then they feel they should have whole blood on hand at all times. To help defray this cost they offer a membership in theirr Blood Club. For 30 dollars a year if your dog needs a blood transfusion, the cost is free. For non-members the cost is usually 300 - 500 dollars depending upon how many units were needed. Ask a tech or receptionist for more information.
