Low-Level Laser Light Therapy (LLLLT), also called Photobiomodulation, is a great tool for acute and chronic pain. The concept is biostimulation of injured tissue with laser light. LLLLT accelerated tissue repair and cell growth. Photons of light penetrate deeply into the tissue and inceases the energy level (ATP) available for cell synthesis and repair. LLLLT reduces scar formation after cuts, burns or surgery; wounds heal faster; inflammation is reduced. We have even used laser on inflammed, painful and infected ears due to the anti-edema and vasodilation effect. LLLLT has a high beneficial effect of the small pain fibers blocking transmission of pain signals. LLLT increases endogenous secretion of endorphans and enkephalins. Additionaly LLLLT significantly increases the formation of new capillaries in damaged tissue which in turns speeds healing and creates a higher output of specific enzymes leading to greater oxygen and nutrient supply to damaged tissue. Also, by raising the pain threshold in the small pain fibers a cumulative anti-pain affect is achieved. Interestingly to me, LLLLT stimulates accupuncture points. Of interest to some of you - stop by the clinic  sometime and we can show you a list of a hundred professional and college athletic programs that laser their beat up players.
